Sugar on the Roof

Sugar on the Roof is Megan Orwig Reynolds on guitar and vocals, Jefferson Reynolds on banjo and trombone, and Clancy Ward on fiddle and vocals. They blend traditional American music from the 1930's and 40's, along with their originals to create a signature sound. Their repertoire spans the decades, from traditional stringband tunes to the roots of Western swing, from Jimmie Rodgers to George Jones, Texas Ruby to Hazel Dickens.  Enjoy honeyed harmonies, classic country fiddle, and a swanky trombone to make it swing. See you on the dance floor!

Julie Young

Caller, Dancer, Musician

Julie Young started calling in 1993, when she co-founded a dance series in Northeast Minneapolis (Mighty Fine Dances), in order to have a regular venue to hone her craft. She learned how to call dances in Appalachian communities West Virginia and North Carolina, but brought those skills back to the Midwest to create her unique blend of calling. She has now been calling at her home dance - the infamous Twin Cities based Monday Night Square Dance - since 1995. She has called community dances all over the upper Midwest, including in Duluth, Chicago, Sioux Falls, Bloomington IN, and at the custom-built Fiddlers Hall on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in ND.  She has performed internationally in England, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, and Quebec. She’s called in many contexts: community dances, weddings, school gigs, festivals, farm events and even internationally attended events like one for the government Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.  She enjoys calling dances for 8 people or 800!
